The Pitt Meadows RCMP is hosting an information session on January 19, 2026 (one of several sessions later that week), to recruit local volunteers as the community prepares to open its autonomous RCMP detachment in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. The session will explain how residents can assist with crime-prevention programs and support local officers in their daily work.

Volunteers will be asked to fill roles such as Speed Watch — using radar and electronic signs to record speeds in high-crash areas — and Citizens on Patrol, which involves patrolling neighbourhoods and reporting suspicious activity. Volunteers will also take part in the Lock Out Auto Crime program by checking parked vehicles for valuables and leaving notices or ‘audits’ for owners to remind them to lock their vehicles.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 19 years old, hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident (permanent residents must have at least five years of residency). All applicants must pass an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Check and commit to volunteering for at least one year, typically about four to 12 hours per month.

The City of Pitt Meadows is building a new, approximately 19,000‑square‑foot detachment at 12486 Harris Road to house the autonomous RCMP detachment. City officials say the detachment (and associated programs) will be funded without a property tax increase.

Residents interested in learning more can RSVP for the information session on January 19 (there are additional sessions on Jan. 21 and Jan. 23, 2026) by emailing communitypolicingvolunteer@pittmeadows.ca or calling 604‑240‑5139. Registrants will be provided the exact session location and start time when they register.
