The Town of Milton, Ontario, declared a Significant Weather Event on Jan. 15, 2026, after heavy snowfall and ongoing winter conditions that have extended snow‑clearing timelines. The declaration signals the town may not meet its usual timelines for clearing streets and sidewalks.

All recreation and culture programs are cancelled until 4 p.m. on Jan. 15, and community centres, including Sherwood Community Centre, will remain open as warming spots for anyone needing a break from the cold. Town staff are asking residents to avoid unnecessary travel so crews can focus on priority routes.

To ensure snow plows can navigate narrow residential streets, the town has suspended parking exceptions until Monday, Jan. 19, 2026. Vehicles left on the road during this time may be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense. Residents are asked to keep vehicles off the street as crews work to clear more than 2,400 kilometres of road and over 250 kilometres of sidewalks.

The declaration is made under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (O. Reg. 239/02), which recognizes that severe weather can necessitate extended service timelines. Neighbours can check the status of snow removal on specific streets using the Town’s Plow Tracks GPS tool, which shows recent clearing activity.
