De Beers Canada is hosting a hiring and information session in Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories, on January 26, 2026, to recruit workers for the Gahcho Kué diamond mine. The event will give community members a direct chance to explore mining and support positions and learn what employers are looking for from local applicants.
The mine, located at Kennady Lake (about 280 km northeast of Yellowknife), recently extended its operations to 2031. That extension means Gahcho Kué will remain a significant employer in the region for several more years as other territory mines enter closure phases.
The session is connected to the Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) involving the Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Gahcho Kué joint venture (the project entity of which De Beers Canada is the operator and 51% owner, with Mountain Province Diamonds holding 49%). The IBA commits to priority hiring, training and business opportunities for Tłı̨chǫ citizens.
Residents who attend the session can meet hiring staff to have resumes reviewed and ask questions about schedules and working conditions. Many advertised roles are Fly-In/Fly-Out (FIFO) positions with a common 14/14 rotation (two weeks on, two weeks off), though exact rotations and contract terms vary by role.
The company is recruiting for heavy equipment operators, mechanics and various support roles. Mountain Province Diamonds — the 49% joint-venture partner — has said the site is shifting focus to new areas of the property (including the NEX ore body), which requires specific technical expertise. The updated Mountain Province life-of-mine plan, announced in August 2024, extended production at Gahcho Kué through 2031.
