The 5th Annual Fire and Ice Festival is coming to the Whitecourt area on Saturday, March 7, 2026, offering a day of outdoor winter activities for local families. The event will take place at the Lac La Nonne General Store in Gunn — about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive southeast of Whitecourt, in the County of Barrhead, Alberta.

Lead organizer Lucas Howes, in partnership with the Lac La Nonne General Store, is staging a day of ice fishing, snowmobile rides and time around fire pits. Residents who want to attend can reserve a spot through the Fire and Ice Festival registration page on Eventbrite; organizers say registration is limited to ensure safety and quality of experience.

Entry to the festival is by donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which helps families from rural communities stay together when children need medical care in the city. Along with activities on the ice, food trucks and local vendors from the region are scheduled to be on site at the store from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This community gathering has grown since it first started in 2021 as a way to get people outside during the late-winter months. According to reporting in Town & Country Today and local community groups, events like this are important for local shops and for organizations such as the Lac La Nonne Enhancement Protection Association (LEPA), which helps look after the lake area.
