The Rural Municipality of Brokenhead posted a new planning package on January 27, 2026, including a ‘Report from Planner’ (after the public open house) and a technical memo by consultant Sarmite Cvilans (the CVLNS Memo). The documents respond to feedback gathered at a recent open house on proposed amendments to the municipal zoning by-law for Beausejour and surrounding areas.

The files are available through the RM of Brokenhead’s Council Meetings portal and outline recommended shifts in land use. The materials describe potential densification and the rezoning of some agricultural parcels to rural-residential uses, and they discuss enabling secondary (rental) suites on private properties. The Brokenhead River Planning District (BRPD) is the planning body overseeing these zoning updates for the region.

At the public open house, some residents raised concerns after reporting that certain information boards had been removed or replaced; the newly posted planner’s report and the CVLNS memo respond to public feedback and outline how the municipality proposes to balance housing needs with the RM’s agricultural heritage. Residents can compare the new materials with the Town of Beausejour’s existing by-laws to understand how specific neighbourhoods might be affected.

Council is accepting public input on the proposed amendments. Readers should submit written comments or delegation requests to the RM of Brokenhead municipal office ahead of the next posted council meeting (shown on the Council Meetings page as February 17, 2026). The RM requests delegation materials and related documents be submitted to the municipal office at least five days before a council meeting; check the Council Meetings portal for the January 27, 2026 meeting package, the CVLNS memo, and any formal public hearing notices before the council’s next decision.
