The Simcoe Sabres Under-18 team has officially been registered to play in the Lefroy Year-End Tournament in Innisfil, Ontario, which is scheduled for Feb. 27–Mar. 1, 2026. The trip gives the local squad a chance to play different teams from across Central Ontario as they head toward the end of the winter season.

The Simcoe & District Minor Hockey Association registered the U18 team for the event, which guarantees at least three games for each team. Organized by Weekend Hockey, the tournament will be played at the Innisfil Recreation Complex and at local Lefroy/Innisfil rinks (Weekend Hockey lists venues including the Morgan Russell Memorial Arena & Community Centre and the Stroud/Innisfil Community Centre Arena); the organizer’s schedule lists exact rink assignments by age group.

Entering this late-season event helps the team comply with Ontario Minor Hockey Association rules that require teams to be engaged in “meaningful competition” through March 1, 2026. It also fits into the teams schedule amid Simcoe Region Local League playoff play, which began on Feb. 9, 2026.

For many U18 players, the tournament represents one of their final appearances in a Sabres jersey before they age out of minor hockey. The Lefroy Year-End Tournament is a long-standing regional event and, according to the tournament organizer, does not charge gate fees for spectators, a policy that typically attracts strong support from visiting families and local fans.
