Miramichi Mayor Adam Lordon has announced he will not run for re-election in the municipal vote scheduled for May 11, 2026, meaning his 10-year tenure as the city’s mayor will conclude when a successor takes office after that election. Lordon disclosed the decision in a video posted to his official Facebook page, saying he wants to prioritize his family after recently adopting a daughter.

Lordon said he also plans to return to his professional career in media and pursue new projects as a television director. During his decade in office he helped steer the community through key projects, including the final stages of the Miramichi Wellness and Recreation Centre project (the Arbec Wellness Centre, often referred to locally as the ‘Multiplex’), and he has been a co-founder and silent partner in the New Maritime Beer Company.

His announcement comes as the City of Miramichi prepares for a new chief administrative officer: Greg Sargent is scheduled to begin as CAO on Feb. 16, 2026. The provincial body that oversees municipal elections, Elections New Brunswick, lists Monday, May 11, 2026 as the date for province-wide local government elections.

Local reporting notes that Lordon first assumed mayoral duties in 2016 — becoming acting mayor in June 2016 after the sudden death of three-term Mayor Gerry Cormier and subsequently winning the November 2016 mayoral by-election. He has also previously pursued federal politics, having sought the federal Liberal nomination in Miramichi-Grand Lake in 2021 before returning to municipal service.
