The Gananoque Arts Network (GAN) is running a hands-on “Mug Making” pottery workshop at its downtown studio on King Street in Gananoque, Ontario, giving residents a chance to create custom ceramic mugs. The winter session is designed for beginners and is part of GAN’s Winter 2026 programming aimed at attracting more people to the King Street area and supporting local makers and creative businesses during the colder months.
Participants will learn basic hand-building pottery techniques — including pinching, coiling and surface decoration — to build and glaze functional mugs under the guidance of local instructors. GAN promoted the workshop in early February 2026.
A 2021 profile from a local news outlet and other coverage note that GAN’s mission is to make the arts accessible to everyone in the community, not only professional artists; GAN’s chair, Dennis O’Connor, has been quoted encouraging participation from people across artistic disciplines. GAN added a full pottery studio in 2023 to respond to local demand for craft classes.
The Town of Gananoque lists GAN among local arts organizations as part of its broader “Naturally Creative” arts and culture strategy to keep the downtown core vibrant; the town’s materials emphasize supporting creative industries and year‑round cultural activity. GAN also offers low-cost memberships and short-form activities to help residents connect with their creative side and to encourage shopping at nearby artisan businesses (GAN currently lists a one-year membership at $25 on its website).
