Residents in Medicine Hat, Alberta, will need to put their garbage and recycling bins out one day later than usual during the week of February 16, 2026. The city is shifting the schedule forward by one day to allow staff to observe the Family Day holiday on Monday.
According to the City of Medicine Hat, all collection zones are affected by this change. If your bins are normally emptied on Monday, they will be picked up on Tuesday, and this one-day delay will continue through the week, ending with Friday collections happening on Saturday, February 21.
This change applies to both grey garbage bins and blue recycling bins, which should be placed at the curb or in the alley by 7:00 a.m. on the adjusted day. You can find more details on how to set out your carts in the official collection guide.
The city uses this “day-forward” system for all provincial holidays to make sure every house gets serviced once a week. Since it is currently winter, residents do not need to worry about green yard waste carts, as that service does not start again until April.
