Residents in Medicine Hat, Alberta, can look forward to a break from the winter cold as sunny skies and milder temperatures arrive between February 9 and February 12, 2026. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, daytime highs are expected to reach between 6°C and 7°C, several degrees above the seasonal average (normal highs near -2°C).

The milder weather is driven by a ridge of high pressure moving into the area, bringing clear skies and warmer air. This window of sunshine provides a more comfortable environment for people to finish outdoor chores or go for walks during the day.

Although the days will feel like an early spring, temperatures will drop at night to around -4°C to -6°C. This daily freeze–thaw cycle means that water from melting snow can refreeze and form slippery black ice on sidewalks and neighborhood streets.

The City of Medicine Hat’s snow-and-ice control program remains focused on road safety as these conditions develop. Residents and drivers are advised to be cautious during morning commutes, especially in shaded areas where surface ice can persist even when the air feels warm.
