Residents in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, saw power return on Sunday morning after a downed high‑voltage line caused outages across the community and nearby coastal areas. The outage began on the evening of February 7, 2026, and affected several streets in the town centre along with neighbourhoods out to Blue Rocks, Garden Lots, and Stonehurst.
The problem started when a high‑voltage line began sparking near the intersection of Medway Street and Fire Station Lane, which required the Town of Lunenburg and the Lunenburg & District Fire Department to respond. For safety, Nova Scotia Power technicians waited for the area to be secured before beginning repairs; crews carried out a staged restoration process to re‑energize circuits one by one.
During the blackout, Lunenburg County REMO (Regional Emergency Management Organization) warned people to stay away from downed wires and follow safety guidance. While the town owns its own electric utility, maintenance and on‑the‑ground repairs are performed under a service agreement with Nova Scotia Power, which the town has used since 2018. The outage affected residents and businesses on Bluenose Drive and Montague Street.
At 10:32 a.m. on February 8, 2026, the Town posted that Nova Scotia Power had reported power was restored to all affected areas. Residents who may still be experiencing localized issues or who need to report a problem are asked to call the 24‑hour utility line at 902‑527‑0150.
