The Woodstock Police Service (WPS) has reported recent traffic enforcement actions related to excessive speed and winter-driving behaviour. In one case, a driver was clocked at 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone and charged with stunt driving; a WPS news release about a similar stunt-driving stop states the driver received a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
WPS notes that driving 40 km/h or more over the posted limit in a zone under 80 km/h (or 50 km/h or more over in zones of 80 km/h and above) meets the statutory threshold for stunt driving under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act (Section 172), which triggers administrative suspensions and impoundment periods.
WPS also reported a separate investigation that resulted in a careless-driving charge related to a motorists handling of winter road conditions. The service has used its news page and social channels to remind motorists to adjust their driving to weather and road conditions during the winter months.
Local media has covered these enforcement actions. WPS and local reporting note that careless-driving and related charges tend to rise during periods of fluctuating winter temperatures when black ice is more likely to appear.
