Residents in Simcoe, Ontario, can expect a break from the deep freeze as temperatures are forecast to rise above zero on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. According to Environment Canada, the daytime high will reach 1°C, marking the first time in several days that the area will see a thaw.

This brief warm-up will help melt built-up snow and ice, making it easier for people to clear their driveways and sidewalks. While the daytime melt helps with snow removal, the runoff will likely turn into ice overnight as temperatures drop back below the freezing mark on Tuesday evening.

Local officials at Norfolk County suggest that residents take advantage of the Tuesday afternoon window to clear slush and keep street drains open. Removing water from sidewalks and clearing snow away from drains can help prevent slippery patches from forming once the sun goes down.

The sudden change in temperature could create difficult conditions for the Wednesday morning commute. Student Transportation Services Brant Haldimand Norfolk (STSBHN) will be monitoring the roads early Wednesday to check if the overnight freeze has made routes unsafe for school buses.
