The PEI Command of the Royal Canadian Legion presented donation checks late last year to two medical facilities to help improve regional healthcare services. Finance Chair Gilles Painchaud and 1st Vice President Mario Couture met with hospital representatives to deliver the funds to the Western Hospital Foundation and the O’Leary Community Health Foundation.

These donations are used to purchase medical items like vital signs monitors and hospital bed replacements that benefit both veterans and the general public. The money for these grants comes from the annual Poppy Campaign, which includes contributions from members of the local Kensington Legion Branch #9.

While Kensington residents typically receive treatment at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside, the support for West Prince facilities helps manage patient flow across the entire region. By funding restorative care beds in O’Leary, the Legion helps free up space for acute care in larger regional hospitals like the Prince County Hospital.

These donations follow a long-standing tradition of the Legion rotating its financial support among various hospital foundations across the province. The funds are strictly used for the welfare of veterans and the purchase of medical equipment for the community.
