The City of Barrie, Ontario, updated its service reminders on February 13 to help residents plan for the upcoming Family Day holiday on February 16, 2026. While many municipal offices will be closed, several community hubs will stay open to host free activities for local families.
Barrie Transit will operate on a Sunday service schedule throughout the holiday. Drivers can find free parking at downtown spots, but the City Hall parking lot on Worsley Street will be closed to the public for special events. Waterfront parking still requires a digital permit, as enforcement there continues 24 hours a day.
City Hall will be closed for regular business, but the rotunda is set to remain open for Family Day activities. All branches of the Barrie Public Library will be closed on Monday. However, local recreation and community centres will stay open during their regular hours to host drop-in events like swimming, skating, and Family Zumba.
Residents do not need to worry about their trash or recycling, as curbside waste collection will follow its normal schedule. Families visiting the downtown area can also view the Hello Winter ice sculptures and displays currently on view at Meridian Place.
