Residents in Brockville, Ontario, are preparing to take part in the Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk on February 28, 2026. This local event is organized by the John Howard Society of Kingston and District to raise money for youth mental health and homelessness services.
As of February 16, the community has raised $9,830 toward a total goal of $36,000. The money helps support the Connect Youth program, which provides basic necessities such as food, clothing, and hygiene products to vulnerable young people in the Leeds and Grenville region.
The event will be held at 125 Stewart Blvd and features a lap-style walk around the property starting at 5:00 pm. This walk is meant to symbolize the daily challenges faced by individuals who are living without shelter during the coldest months of the year.
In addition to meeting immediate physical needs, the funds help provide life skills training and family counselling for people aged 16 to 24. Several local teams, including the Wall Street Walkers led by Rachel Buchner, have already registered to participate in the fundraiser.
Individual fundraisers like Dan MacKinnon are also working to help the organization reach its target for the year. Residents who want to participate can still register their own teams or join existing ones to support these local youth programs.
