The City of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, recently finished its 44th Annual Frosty Festival which ran from February 5 to February 15, 2026. This large winter celebration was made possible by a group of local volunteers who helped run events ranging from community skates to a comedy show headlined by Shaun Majumder.

To make the 11-day event happen, the Frosty Festival Committee recruited residents aged 16 and older to join the volunteer team. Each person was required to pass a background check with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary to ensure the festival remained safe for everyone in the community.

Volunteer Coordinator Sheri Philpott managed the recruitment process, which required all applications to be submitted by December 31, 2025. Those selected for the crew attended one of two mandatory training sessions held on January 18 and January 22, 2026, at the Team Gushue Soccer Hut to prepare for the festival.

The Frosty Festival is recognized as the largest event of its kind in Atlantic Canada and depends on these local helpers to staff both indoor and outdoor venues. By providing various activities, the city continues its tradition of bringing neighbours together during the coldest months of the year.
