The Port Alberni RCMP is asking local residents in Port Alberni, British Columbia, to help raise money for athletes with intellectual disabilities by taking part in the annual Polar Plunge. On February 18, 2026, the local police shared details about the fundraiser, which encourages people to jump into cold water or donate to support Special Olympics BC.

The 2026 campaign is currently running and will continue through March 8, 2026. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event in the province, which has raised $1.9 million for inclusive sports programs since it first began.

The event is a major initiative of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a program where police officers volunteer their time to help local athletes. To join the plunge and earn event rewards, participants generally need to raise a minimum of $75 in donations ($50 for students and Special Olympics BC athletes).

Funds from the fundraiser go toward year-round sports and health programs for thousands of athletes across British Columbia. By participating, community members can help local athletes while interacting with police officers in a positive way.
