Residents in Grande Prairie, Alberta, will have two more chances to see the musical Tick…Tick…Boom! as the local theatre expands its schedule. Grande Prairie Live Theatre added new showtimes on March 26 and March 27, 2026, to accommodate high demand at its downtown location. These extra performances allow the community to experience a Broadway-style musical without needing to travel to a larger city.
The production is the sixth play of the theatre’s 63rd season and is held at the 161-seat theatre on 98 Avenue. Directed by Tahnia Getson, the show follows a young composer named Jon as he faces a mid-life crisis before his 30th birthday. The story is set against the backdrop of the artistic struggle in New York City during the early 1990s.
The musical is a semi-autobiographical work by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of the famous show “Rent.” Because the production includes mature themes like HIV/AIDS, mental health, and substance use, the theatre recommends the show for people aged 16 and older. This choice of play reflects the organization’s commitment to presenting complex and modern stories to local audiences.
As a non-profit organization, the theatre relies on a dedicated team of nearly 300 volunteers to bring these high-quality productions to the stage. The group serves more than 14,000 audience members every year through a variety of plays, concerts, and film screenings. These added showtimes provide more shifts for volunteers and help bring extra foot traffic to small businesses in the downtown area.
