Hundreds of athletes and visitors will arrive in Canmore, Alberta, for the 2026 Canadian Biathlon Championships and Spring Biathlon Festival from March 24 to March 29, 2026. This national competition is expected to bring more than 200 of the country’s top biathletes to the Canmore Nordic Centre, creating a boost for local businesses.
While the Canmore Nordic Ski Club public calendar lists the national cross-country ski championships for March 9 to March 14, 2026, that event is actually taking place in Quebec. According to Nordiq Canada, the races will be held at Mont-Sainte-Anne, and the local club’s listing reflects when their athletes are travelling away to compete.
The upcoming biathlon event in late March, sanctioned by Biathlon Canada, will offer local residents a chance to see high-level competition in their own backyard. The festival will feature several races and is being coordinated by the Bow Valley Biathlon Organizing Committee.
Residents should prepare for increased activity and higher demand for local services such as hotels and restaurants throughout the final week of the month. Some trails and facilities at the provincial park will also be closed to the public during race days to ensure the safety of the athletes and spectators.
