The Mississippi Mills Public Library has launched a new series of hands-on workshops for March 2026 that will teach residents in Mississippi Mills, Ontario, how to use a sewing machine and create simple crafts at the Pakenham branch Makerspace.
Participants can choose from several projects, including sewing a hair scrunchie, making a mini bunny bag, or creating “pocket hug” cards. On March 16, 2026, the library will host a youth workshop for those aged 10 to 18 to sew their own small felt stuffed animals. A separate session for adults and children to sew together is taking place on March 18, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
These sessions are supported by fabric that was donated by the community during a drive in February 2026. The Makerspace was created with financial support from local residents Maureen and David Dern and technical guidance from professional clothing designer Paddye Mann. Other equipment, such as the 3D printer, is funded by the Elizabeth Kelly Library Foundation.
All materials and instructions are provided for free to anyone with a valid library card, but residents must register early because space is limited. Registration is done through the library website using online forms. These workshops give families and teens a chance to learn useful skills and gain supervised access to tools and technology.
