Families in Peguis, Manitoba, can now register their children for the Storm basketball program for the upcoming 2026 spring season. Registration is open from March 2, 2026, to March 27, 2026, and is organized by the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council. This initiative gives local youth the chance to join a competitive league and play against teams from other communities.
The teams will compete in the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association from April through June 2026. Since Peguis First Nation is located about 190 kilometres north of Winnipeg, families should plan for a drive of roughly two hours each way for game days. Local recreation staff are available to help parents with the registration process, fees, or transportation needs.
The provincial sports council is currently led by Bruce W.J. Miller, who was appointed as the executive director in December 2025. This basketball program is designed to bridge the gap for Indigenous athletes and provide them with more opportunities to participate in provincial sports systems.
