Crescent Park Elementary in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, is asking parents and caregivers to share their child care needs through a new survey. The feedback collected in March 2026 will help the school and School District 59 Peace River South decide how to run new before and after-school programs. This effort ensures that the services provided match the actual work and home schedules of local families.
The school is currently facing severe overcrowding and is operating at 163 per cent over its intended capacity. A 9.2 million dollar expansion project is underway to add five new classroom spaces to help with the overcrowding.
While the district is also creating 74 new child care spaces across Dawson Creek and Tumbler Ridge that are expected to be finished in April 2026, the new classrooms at Crescent Park have faced delays. The occupancy date for the five new classrooms was recently moved to the summer of 2026 because some construction work had to wait until the spring.
The district is also working with the provincial government to get more funding to cover rising costs for its capital projects. By filling out the survey, parents can directly influence the hours and types of care offered when the new spaces open later this year.
