The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum in Brandon, Manitoba, is looking for contractors to help with a major redevelopment of its historic site at the Brandon Municipal Airport. The museum issued a call for proposals on February 18, 2026, to find a team that can fix up its 1941 hangar or build a new one to protect its collection of Second World War aircraft.
The project aims to make the facility safer and easier for everyone to use while fixing the building’s structure. According to Zoe McQuinn, the Director General of the museum, the work involves making sure the site meets modern safety rules and accessibility standards.
This major project follows a donation from the late John Balushak that was announced on January 9, 2026. The museum is currently deciding whether to restore its original hangar from 1941 or build a new hangar-style facility to house its collection of historic artifacts.
Qualified building teams have until March 30, 2026, to submit their plans and cost estimates to the museum. This update is seen as a key step in keeping the national historic site open and safe for residents and visitors for years to come.
