Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada hosted a community open house on March 3, 2026, at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre in Port Colborne, Ontario. The event allowed residents to learn more about the company’s new $1.56-billion factory that will produce parts for electric vehicle batteries.
The facility is expected to create over 300 jobs for the local community. Once the plant opens in 2027, it will produce enough battery parts to support the manufacturing of one million electric cars every year.
People who attended the meeting saw artistic drawings of the project and received progress updates on the construction. The City of Port Colborne has worked closely with the company to keep the public informed about the development.
Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli, has supported the project as a major milestone for the region. The factory is the first of its kind in Canada and is a key part of the provincial plan to build more vehicle parts at home.
