The new Dawson Creek & District Hospital in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, is reaching building milestones faster than expected, with major construction now set to wrap up on September 29, 2026. This updated timeline means the project is two months ahead of its original target, allowing the facility to move into the next phase of preparation sooner.
The $590-million project is being funded by the provincial government through Northern Health and the Peace River Regional Hospital District. Once the building work is finished this autumn, teams will begin the detailed work of testing medical systems and training staff to use the new space.
A specialist group called Health Care Relocations has been hired to manage the complicated task of moving patients and equipment into the facility. While the physical building will be ready in late 2026, the hospital is expected to officially open its doors to patients in Spring 2027.
The Dawson Creek & District Hospital Foundation is also working to raise $3 million to buy the first publicly funded MRI machine for the region. This new facility will replace the current hospital that was built in 1960, which officials say no longer meets modern medical or safety standards.
