The Town of Canmore, Alberta, sent out 2026 property assessment notices on February 26, 2026, showing a rise in local real estate values. These notices tell homeowners what their property was worth during the previous summer and provide the base for calculating upcoming property tax bills.
Residential property values in the area have increased by an average of 12.5% over the past year. Businesses in the visitor accommodation sector, such as hotels and resorts, saw a much larger increase of approximately 27%.
These 2026 assessments are based on market values from July 1, 2025, and the condition of the buildings as of December 31, 2025. While property values have gone up, the actual tax bill will not be finalized until the town council sets the tax rates later this spring.
Homeowners have until May 5, 2026, to review their notices and report any concerns. If a resident disagrees with their valuation, they can file a formal complaint with the Assessment Review Board before that spring deadline.
