The Summerside City Council in Prince Edward Island officially approved the 2026-2027 budget on March 12, 2026. The new financial plan keeps property taxes at their current levels to help residents with the cost of living while funding several community projects.

This year’s plan includes a $26.7 million investment in local infrastructure. These funds will be used to maintain and renew city property and services to keep up with the community’s growth and development.

A total of $6.1 million is set aside specifically for upgrades to Summerside Electric. This spending focuses on improving the local power system to ensure reliable service for homes and businesses.

Local officials say the goal of the budget is to balance the need for city growth with the need for affordable living. By holding the line on taxes, the city aims to provide stable costs for everyone in the community while maintaining essential services.
