Residents in Banff, Alberta, can now enter a lottery to secure one of approximately 80 seasonal gardening plots for the 2026 growing season. The Town of Banff opened the application period on March 12, 2026, and will continue to accept entries until April 7, 2026.
These gardening spaces are located in greenhouses at the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre and Sundance Park. Residents who win a spot in the random draw will have access to their plots from May through October 2026.
The municipality uses a lottery system because the demand for gardening space regularly exceeds the number of available plots. This randomized process ensures that all community members have a fair opportunity to access the limited greenhouse space.
The Banff Greenhouse Gardening Society helps support these local efforts for residents interested in growing their own food and flowers. This yearly lottery has become an important event for the local community as they prepare for the upcoming spring season.
