The Town of Amherstburg, Ontario, has officially set the date for its next municipal election for October 26, 2026. This announcement allows residents to begin preparing for the local vote, which happens every four years to decide who will lead the community.

The town will continue to use traditional in-person voting where residents mark paper ballots that are then counted by electronic machines. This method is the same one used during the 2022 election and was chosen again because local residents expressed high levels of trust in the security of this process.

A new administrative change for this election means that Elections Ontario is now responsible for managing the list of eligible voters. Community members are encouraged to visit the provincial website to confirm their information is correct so they are ready to vote when the time comes.

Residents will be voting for several important local roles, including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The election will also determine five Councillors who represent the entire town, along with representatives for four different school boards.

Local officials are urging everyone to stay informed by using town resources to learn about what is required to run for office and how the voting process works. More details will be shared as the community moves closer to the election date in October.
