Red Deer Rebels forward Poul Andersen has been named the Sandman Hotel Group Western Hockey League Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 22, 2026, after helping his team secure a playoff spot in Red Deer, Alberta.
The 18-year-old forward earned the honour after recording seven points, including four goals and three assists, over three games. According to the Western Hockey League, Andersen led all Rebels rookies this season with 46 points and was the team’s top goal scorer with 25 goals.
Andersen joined the team on December 27, 2025, through a trade that was part of a move by owner Brent Sutter to focus on younger players. Since his arrival, he has scored 30 points in 36 games while playing on a roster that now mostly consists of players born in 2007 and 2008.
The Red Deer Rebels finished the regular season with 58 points to clinch the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The team will now travel to face the top-ranked Prince Albert Raiders for the first game of the playoffs on March 27, 2026.
