The Lethbridge City Council is meeting today, March 24, 2026, in Lethbridge, Alberta, to discuss a new long-term plan for ambulance services and to honour the legacy of a local hero.
Council is reviewing the ground ambulance agreement because the provincial government is moving toward new 10-year service contracts. According to EHS-Alberta, current contracts across the province are set to expire on September 30, 2026, and the government is seeking new proposals to keep the emergency system stable.
The current partnership with Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services uses four ambulances at all times, with up to 10 vehicles on the road during the busiest hours of the afternoon. This arrangement was originally designed to help reduce the amount of local tax money needed from residents to run the service.
Leaders will also proclaim April 7, 2026, as Green Shirt Day to remember Logan Boulet, the local hockey player who inspired thousands of people to sign up for organ donation. The event marks eight years since the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and highlights how one person’s choice can create a ripple effect that saves lives.
Finally, the city is reviewing its membership with the SouthGrow Regional Initiative. This group includes 30 communities that work together to bring more business and jobs to the region.
