Alberta Health Services issued a public health warning on March 18, 2026, about a possible measles exposure on a bus route that ended in Grande Prairie. The alert concerns passengers who travelled on a Cold Shot Bus Company trip from Calgary through Red Deer and Edmonton on March 10 and March 11, 2026.
The risk began at the Calgary International Airport baggage claim at carousel number four on March 10, between 4:30 p.m. and 8:50 p.m., before the infected person boarded a bus at the Calgary terminal at 6:50 p.m. The bus stopped at terminals in Red Deer and Edmonton before arriving at the Grande Prairie Bus Terminal at 9501 113 St. between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on March 11, 2026.
Health officials say that anyone born in or after 1970 who has not had measles or received two doses of the vaccine may be at risk if they were at these locations during the specified times. Alberta has seen 159 confirmed measles cases so far in 2026, following 2,009 cases reported throughout 2025.
Most of the current cases involve people who have not been vaccinated, as provincial data shows only 71.6 per cent of seven-year-olds are fully up-to-date with their shots. Residents who believe they were exposed can call the provincial measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 to check immunization records, discuss symptoms, or book an appointment.
