The Town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, has pushed back the start of sewer repairs on West Street and James Street to Thursday, March 26, 2026, which will result in traffic delays and temporary water shut-offs for residents.
The work was originally supposed to begin earlier this week but is now expected to run until Thursday, April 2, 2026. Drivers should prepare for lane closures, detours, and stop-and-go traffic as crews move through different work zones on both streets each day.
A contractor called Eastern Trenchless is handling the repairs, which involve fixing sewer pipes that are more than 50 years old. They are using a method that lines the inside of existing pipes, which helps avoid the need for major excavation or digging up the entire road.
During the installation process, sections of the sewer system will be taken offline for about 24 hours at a time. Residents and businesses in the affected areas will be unable to use their water or sewer drains while their section of the line is being repaired.
Local officials have acknowledged that this project has caused significant disruption for residents and businesses in the community. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible to avoid delays while this stage of the infrastructure work is completed.
