The Summerside Community Choir is currently accepting applications for a memorial fund that supports local music teachers, composers, and choral groups in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. The funding is designed to help these musical leaders and performers continue their work and development in the region.
The Bill Leuty Memorial Fund was established in 2024 to honour the legacy of the choir’s founder. It provides financial grants to individuals and groups who are active in the local community music scene.
According to the choir, the deadline to apply for this year’s funding is April 17, 2026. The grants will be officially awarded during the choir’s spring concert at Trinity United Church on April 26, 2026.
This year’s performance is titled “Canadian Inspirations” and is set to begin at 3:00 PM. The event will feature approximately 75 singers and is led by musical director John Wervers, who has directed the group since 2024.
The choir is the longest-running community singing group in the province and has been performing since 1978. Their spring concert takes place at 90 Spring Street in a historic building that is the oldest church still in use in the original town area.
