The City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is launching a free fitness program for children ages 8 to 14 to help them stay active. The sessions will teach young people the basics of using a gym through a circuit format that focuses on strength and cardio training.
Families can register for the program starting April 1 through the city’s online registration portal. This program provides a no-cost way for students to learn how to exercise safely and effectively, with classes scheduled to begin shortly after registration opens.
Much of the city’s community programming takes place at the Northern Community Centre on Goulais Avenue. The facility also offers other free activities for families during the week, including table tennis, board games, and foosball.
Mayor Matthew Shoemaker leads the city council, which also operates a Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council to help address issues that are important to younger residents. This new fitness initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible health and wellness options for local youth.
