Red Deer recently served as a hub for provincial youth hockey, successfully hosting the U13 A Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships at Servus Arena from March 19-22, 2026. The tournament, organized by the Red Deer Minor Hockey Association and the Red Deer Motors U13 A Chiefs, welcomed eight teams from across the province and drew hundreds of visitors to the community.
This event was part of a larger series of Hockey Alberta provincial championships presented by ATB, which featured 35 separate events across 31 different communities throughout the province this spring. The local tournament saw approximately 190 athletes compete, providing a significant boost to regional visitor traffic and the local economy.
The host city saw strong results on the ice during the championship season. The local Red Deer Motors U13 A Chiefs secured the U13 A provincial banner, while the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs captured the U18 Female AAA provincial title. These victories highlight the continued strength of local hockey programs as participation in the sport continues to grow across the province.
