The City of Grande Prairie has lifted all parking bans on major snow routes as of April 1, 2026, shifting municipal efforts from winter snow removal to managing spring melt and preventing local flooding.
Parking bans on permanent snow routes, which had been reinstated on March 26 following late-season snowfall, are no longer in effect. The city is now moving away from active snow clearing to focus on monitoring drainage systems and addressing icy road conditions caused by temperature fluctuations.
During the spring melt, residents may notice water pooling near curbs and storm drains. According to the city, this is common during freeze-thaw cycles while catch basins are still in the process of opening up. City crews are currently monitoring these areas and working to manage drainage throughout the community.
The County of Grande Prairie is also working to address pooling water and runoff in rural areas by steaming culverts and clearing storm drains.
Residents are encouraged to help reduce local water pooling by clearing snow and ice from drainage paths on their own property and directing meltwater away from home foundations.
