Two 20-year-old residents from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, died in separate but related incidents on Highway 10 near Edgeley early on March 28, 2026. The Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP are investigating the tragedy, which has brought renewed attention to safety concerns on the busy highway corridor.
The first incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle struck a female pedestrian on the highway west of Edgeley. Emergency responders declared the woman deceased at the scene. Later that morning, officers discovered a damaged vehicle in a nearby slough containing the body of a 20-year-old man. Investigators determined the vehicle had left the road and rolled, but they do not believe this second incident is connected to the earlier collision involving the pedestrian.
Authorities confirmed that the two victims had been travelling together in the same vehicle before the series of events unfolded. The investigation into the circumstances of both deaths continues with assistance from a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist and in consultation with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
This stretch of road in eastern Saskatchewan has a long history of safety challenges. According to data from Saskatchewan Government Insurance, there were 164 collisions resulting in 67 injuries on the 42-kilometre section between Melville and Yorkton between 2012 and 2016 alone. Previous high-profile tragedies, including a 2017 head-on collision that killed three people, prompted the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways to complete a $39.4-million project that added three sets of passing lanes to the route in 2020.
