The City of Grande Prairie has launched its annual City Scrub campaign, inviting residents to help clean up local parks, neighbourhoods, and public spaces throughout April 2026.
Now in its 24th year, this long-standing community tradition encourages residents to spend just 20 minutes collecting litter that has accumulated over the winter months. By moving the initiative to span the entire month, the City of Grande Prairie aims to provide more flexibility for families, businesses, and community groups to help keep the area clean as the snow melts.
“City Scrub is one of those initiatives that really shows the pride people have in Grande Prairie,” says City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “It’s amazing what a small amount of time can do when people come together. Whether it’s neighbours, classrooms or coworkers, these moments help build a stronger, more connected and caring community for everyone.”
To support these cleanup efforts, the city is providing free supplies, including garbage bags and gloves. Residents can pick up these materials at several locations, including City Hall, Muskoseepi Park, the Eastlink Centre, the Grande Prairie Museum, the City Service Centre, and the Activity and Reception Centre. Once litter is collected, it can be disposed of in regular curbside garbage carts alongside household waste.
This initiative highlights the collective impact of small community contributions. In 2019, city crews alone collected more than 20,000 pounds of garbage during the annual spring cleanup. The event remains a key part of the city’s seasonal maintenance efforts to ensure public spaces are welcoming for all residents.
