Environment Canada reports that daytime temperatures throughout the week will range between 3°C and 6°C. While today will see mainly sunny skies, clouds are expected to increase as the day progresses.
Winter is making one last appearance this evening, with rain showers and flurries expected to shift to snow around midnight. Between 2 and 4 centimetres of accumulation are forecast through Monday morning. Drivers should exercise caution on the roads Monday, as temperatures will drop and create potential for icy conditions.
Following the snowfall, the middle of the week will see a return to mild, seasonal weather with a mix of sun and cloud. However, overnight temperatures are expected to dip significantly, reaching lows of -8°C on Tuesday night and -10°C by Wednesday night.
As the gateway to Kluane National Park and Reserve, the community often experiences rapid weather shifts this time of year. While local roads such as the Alaska Highway and the Haines Highway are maintained as all-weather routes, travelers are reminded by the Village of Haines Junction that extreme winter driving conditions can still occur on the Haines Highway.
