Residents in Tecumseh, Ontario, who are interested in running for local office in the upcoming municipal election can attend an information session on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Hosted by the County of Essex, the session will provide potential candidates with the necessary details on election rules and the nomination process.
The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM at the County of Essex Administration Building, located at 360 Fairview Ave W in Essex. Experts from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the consulting agency Clerks on Call will be on hand to explain the requirements for seeking a position on town council or the school board.
To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, and meet the residency or elector requirements for the municipality. Those who decide to run may officially file their nomination papers starting Friday, May 1, 2026. All paperwork must be submitted to the Town of Tecumseh Clerk’s Office, located at 917 Lesperance Road, by 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026.
The town has finalized preparations for the municipal election, which is set for Monday, October 26, 2026. For this election, voters will use internet and telephone voting methods only. To encourage participation, the town has expanded the advance voting period to 28 days, beginning on September 28, 2026.
