The Job Resource Centre is hosting the Bow Valley Summer Job Fair in Canmore on Friday, April 17, 2026, to help connect local job seekers with employers ahead of the busy summer tourism season. The event will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Malcolm Hotel, located at 321 Spring Creek Dr.
Organized in partnership with the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce, the fair aims to address ongoing labour shortages in the region. There are currently 146 job openings available across Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise, and Kananaskis. Available roles span various industries, including food and beverage, hotel guest services, housekeeping, tourism, retail, and trades.
Wages for these positions vary widely, ranging from $16.75 per hour for entry-level service roles to $45 per hour for specialized trade positions. As local businesses look to staff up for the peak summer months, some employers are highlighting the urgent need for staff. For example, the Grizzly Paw Brewing Company in Canmore has reported a need for more than 35 employees before June 1.
Finding housing remains a significant barrier for workers in the region, which complicates recruitment efforts for many local businesses. To help attract talent, approximately 40% of the jobs currently listed through the Job Resource Centre include staff accommodation, marking a 4% increase over previous years. This comes at a time when average rental costs in Canmore are high, with one-bedroom units averaging $2,727 per month and three-bedroom units reaching an average of $4,442 per month.
This upcoming fair follows a similar event held in Banff on March 26, 2026, which featured over 600 job opportunities. These events are part of a broader effort to support the local tourism industry, which contributed more than $15 billion to the Alberta economy last year. Employers and job seekers alike are also navigating challenges related to recent federal changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, which have introduced more complex requirements for hiring international staff.
