Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Peguis area as a late-season storm moves through the region. Residents can expect between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow starting Tuesday afternoon, April 7, and continuing through Thursday morning, April 9, 2026.
The weather system, identified as an Alberta clipper, is expected to bring heavy snow along with wind gusts reaching between 40 and 70 kilometres per hour. Meteorologists are warning that these conditions will likely make roads and walkways difficult to navigate. The impact is considered moderate, though forecasters report high confidence in the current outlook.
Local travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly, particularly on Wednesday. Due to the combination of heavy snowfall and strong winds, officials say there is also a possibility of utility outages. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and forecasts closely for the duration of the storm.
Peguis First Nation, which is the largest First Nations community in Manitoba, is located in the Interlake region. In the event of a crisis or emergency, the community can receive assistance from the Peguis Emergency Operations Centre.
