Residents in Dawson Creek and the surrounding Peace River region should prepare for difficult travel conditions as Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning. Between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow are expected to accumulate from Monday evening, April 6, through late Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026.
The weather system, which was upgraded from a special weather statement on April 5, is expected to bring heavy snow at times. Forecasters anticipate snowfall rates of up to 3 centimetres per hour. Precipitation may begin as rain before transitioning into snow as a cold front moves through the area on Monday evening.
Travelers should be aware that conditions on Highway 97 through Pine Pass are expected to deteriorate quickly. Reduced visibility and blowing snow will likely create hazardous driving conditions throughout the region. Officials encourage residents to monitor DriveBC for real-time road updates before heading out.
The snowfall is expected to taper off by late Tuesday morning and move out of the region by Tuesday afternoon. As the area experiences this late-season winter weather, the Nawican Friendship Centre continues to operate an emergency warming centre at 1401 102nd Avenue, with support from the provincial Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.
