The Dawson Creek Canucks captured the provincial senior hockey title on April 4, 2026, defeating the Quesnel Kangaroos 4-1 at the Dawson Creek Memorial Arena. The victory marked the fourth time the team has won the Coy Cup, adding to their previous championship wins in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
This year’s tournament held special significance as it was the first time in the 104-year history of the competition that Dawson Creek served as the host city. The event featured four teams, including the host Canucks, the Quesnel Kangaroos, the Powell River Regals, and the Rossland Warriors. The City of Dawson Creek supported the effort to bring the tournament to the region with a municipal contribution of $3,500.
The Canucks entered the provincial tournament shortly after losing in the North Peace Hockey League finals, following a strong regular season where they finished with a 15-1 record. In the championship final, goaltender Josh Round provided a key performance, stopping 30 of 31 shots. The offence was led by Chase Henrickson and Matthew Schmermund, who each scored two goals. Dolan Bjornson also contributed a notable coast-to-coast goal during the third period.
Reflecting on the achievement, head coach Marcel Capelle praised the team’s effort on the ice. The tournament, which ran from March 31 to April 4, saw the host team emerge as provincial champions, concluding a busy season for the organization.
