The Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council is continuing its spring lineup of community programs this week, offering new opportunities for residents to engage in sports across the province. These initiatives, which include programs available to members of the Peguis First Nation, are part of a broader effort to promote health and well-being through athletic participation.
The Indigenous Women’s Golf Program, which first launched in February in partnership with the Peguis First Nation Recreation Department, includes sessions on April 7 and April 14, 2026. The program takes place at Invictus Golf in Winnipeg and is designed to provide golf instruction in a supportive environment. The sessions are split into two age groups, with women aged 18 to 30 meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and those aged 31 and older meeting from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participation costs $25 per person, with six spots available for each group.
Those looking for more information on the golf program can reach out to the council at 204-942-6615.
Additionally, the council is hosting the Muay Tigers martial arts program for youth, though registration for the current spring session is now full. This program, which runs through June 25, 2026, at Dave’s Gym in Winnipeg, offers Muay Thai classes for children aged 7 to 12. For future inquiries regarding this youth program, community members can contact the council at 204-925-5737.
The council, which has been serving the province since its incorporation in 1994, emphasizes that these programs align with its commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action regarding the role of sports in community empowerment. Operating on ancestral lands throughout Manitoba, the organization continues to work as a provincial body to create sustainable recreational opportunities for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people.
