The Limestone District School Board is hosting a free resource fair on April 23, 2026, to help Kingston families navigate the transition from school to adult services for students with disabilities or developmental needs. The event, titled Life Beyond School, will take place from 5:45 to 8:30 p.m. at Limestone Educational Services, located at 164 Van Order Drive.
Families are invited to drop in to browse information booths covering a variety of topics, including housing, employment services, respite care, mental health supports, and post-secondary education options. No registration is required to attend, and the event will feature light refreshments and gift bags for attendees.
A key part of the evening includes formal presentations from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. featuring Developmental Services Ontario and local Passport agencies. These sessions will provide information on the provincial Passport Program, which offers a minimum of $5,500 in annual funding to help adults with developmental disabilities participate in their communities. For those who cannot attend in person, the school board will record the presentations and share them virtually after the event.
Donna Abbink, a transition planning coordinator for the school board, is managing the event. The initiative reflects the board’s commitment to supporting students as they move from the classroom into adult life. The board works closely with local community partners, including groups represented on its Special Education Advisory Committee such as Community Living Kingston and District, Autism Ontario, and Easter Seals Ontario, to help ensure families are connected to necessary services.
