The City of Port Colborne saw significant investment in March 2026, as the local building division issued nine permits totaling over $9.1 million. This activity highlights the city’s ongoing growth as the municipality continues to prioritize major infrastructure projects alongside new residential developments.
The largest portion of the month’s permit value, totaling $8 million, was dedicated to a new sewage pumping station. This facility is being designed by Associated Engineering as part of a broader effort to provide necessary infrastructure for the city’s East Side Employment Lands, which includes servicing the area around the new battery separator plant.
Beyond major industrial infrastructure, the building report also included smaller investments such as $516,000 for new semi-detached housing units and a $300,000 renovation for a school gym. Demolition work also occurred on lands managed by Niagara Regional Housing, clearing the way for future projects.
These figures arrive as the city continues to navigate changes in the broader regional housing market. According to recent data, while residential sales in the Niagara region jumped 19.2 per cent in March compared to the previous month, local property values have seen some fluctuation. In the Port Colborne and Wainfleet area, the benchmark home price was $483,400 in March 2026, which is a 6.2 per cent decrease from the same time last year.
Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele has stated that the city is prioritizing smart and sustainable infrastructure investments within the 2026 budget to support the municipality’s status as one of the fastest-growing areas in the region.
