Residents in Sherwood Park will have a chance to explore local volunteer opportunities during a drop-in event hosted by Volunteer Strathcona on May 7, 2026.
The event, which takes place from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the organization’s office located at #205, 48 Brentwood Blvd, is designed to help community members learn about various ways to get involved without requiring a formal long-term commitment. Organizers have opened the session to people of all ages and skill levels, making it an accessible starting point for those who have never volunteered before.
This initiative follows the recent celebration of National Volunteer Week, which took place from April 19 to April 25, 2026. By hosting this session, the organization aims to continue the momentum of promoting volunteerism in the region.
Founded in September 1976, Volunteer Strathcona has served as a community hub for nearly 50 years. In 2024 alone, the group engaged with 108 community organizations and connected 489 people with volunteer roles. These efforts resulted in an estimated 19,500 volunteer hours, providing roughly $353,000 in value to the community.
In addition to connecting people with local groups, the organization runs several direct assistance programs, including snow shoveling for low-income seniors and people with disabilities through its SnowBusters initiative, as well as lawn care through LawnBusters. The group also manages free tax preparation clinics and equipment loans through its We Care We Share program.
Volunteer Strathcona receives primary funding through an annual grant from the Strathcona County Social Framework.
